Plan Your Flooring Project: An Atlanta Homeowner Checklist

A useful flooring estimate starts with a clear brief. Use this checklist to explain your project, compare proposals, and avoid leaving important details out of the conversation.

1. Describe the space

  • Your city and the rooms involved.
  • Approximate room dimensions, including closets, stairs, and adjoining areas.
  • The existing floor and any areas of concern.
  • Photos of each room, doorways, transitions, and visible damage.
  • Whether the space will be occupied while the work takes place.

Approximate measurements help with initial planning. Ask how final measurements and quantities will be confirmed before ordering.

2. Name your priorities

List the things you want the project to solve: appearance, maintenance, comfort, noise, worn surfaces, or a change in how the room is used. Share a target budget and preferred timing, and identify which choices are flexible.

3. Compare the same scope

Ask each provider to explain what is included and what may change after inspection:

  • Material name, product specifications, and quantity.
  • Removal, disposal, furniture handling, and access arrangements.
  • Subfloor inspection and any preparation or repairs.
  • Underlayment, adhesive, transitions, trim, and stair details.
  • Installation labor, scheduling assumptions, and cleanup.
  • Payment schedule, written change approvals, and warranty documentation.

A lower total is not a complete comparison if the preparation or finishing details differ. Ask for unclear allowances or exclusions to be explained in writing.

4. Plan for installation day

Confirm who clears the rooms, moves appliances, handles doors and trim, and protects nearby areas. Discuss parking, building access, pets, children, and any building rules. Ask the installer when the room can be used again and which product-specific care instructions apply.

5. Keep a project record

Save the accepted scope, product names, receipts, photos, care instructions, and warranty documents in one place. Note any agreed changes before work proceeds.
